The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over! Take a deep breath and let that sink in for a moment…. Now that you are nice and relaxed, it is time for you to welcome in and settle into the New Year and like every January, it has become a tradition to reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the new one ahead. You may have resolved to get into shape, go after that big promotion or buy your dream house, *wink wink* but did you know that the most popular resolution each year is to become more organized?

There are many things to organize and many ways to organize them, the most important of which being your life. As a working wife and mother, it is imperative to keep everything organized in order for me to keep my sanity. Here are my most basic beginner tips to start organizing your life.

What You Will Need:

Planner

Calendar

Page Protectors

Binders

1) Carry A Planner

I prefer the caveman of *gasp* writing things down and research has proven that writing things down can help with memory, so I highly suggest a planner. Of course, if you prefer living in the 21st century this could all be done on your digital calendars.

At the end of each month, I begin planning the month ahead. In my planner I jot down any birthdays or events coming up, bills due, work responsibilities and appointments, basically anything and everything of importance. Once I have all the information I need all in one place, I keep that planner with me for when I may need to add to it or to refer to it as life pops up.

Anything that requires my family’s attention ie; my husband and kids, I transfer over to our shared calendar, which brings me to my next piece of advice...

2) Have A Shared Calendar

While I take my planner with me to add to it as life comes up, I keep a shared calendar in my home for the family to be aware of what to expect each day.And yes, you can certainly link your digital calendars to your family members. Just transfer over all the information that your family will need to know, that way everyone can organize their days accordingly and with more than one set of eyes on your plans, it will be very hard to forget that there is your Uncle’s surprise birthday party this weekend.

3) Binders and Page Protectors

One of the greatest ways I keep our life organized at home is having some important things in binders which I keep in a central location for easy access. Depending on your specific situation will depend on how many binders you will need. For my family I have a family binder which contains our logins and passwords, family birthdays, addresses and school calendars. I also have a binder that includes household warranties and instruction manuals for all of our appliances and other big purchases. I put everything in page protectors so you don’t have to worry about anything happening to your important papers. I also like to keep a binder of credit card and bank statements along with monthly bills to keep them organized and readily available to us should we need them.

These tips are the most basic way to start organizing. Remembering so much can be stressful, especially if you have a lot of moving parts. These few tips should allow you to begin to tackle the chaos and clutter of the everyday and help organize your life. Good Luck achieving all of your resolutions this year!
